I want to work on collecting individual’s experiences or events from childhood that shaped the rest of their lives.

I am so interested in how a parent can introduce a child to hundreds of intellectual/ creativity stimulating things, yet children always seem to vividly remember and take inspiration from those unintentional or trivial.

One of the personal childhood experiences that held great impact on my future decisions happened while on vacation in New Mexico.
My parents have always had more appreciation for unconventional vacations. What I mean by “unconventional” is that we hardly ever engaged in touristy behavior. My mom and dad always had some quirky, off-beat tour up their sleeves.

This particular occasion we were in Taos, New Mexico.  My family and I ventured out for the day to see “earthships.” As a child I was generally unenthused about side-trips that did not involve swimming pools and candy. What we saw that day, however, impacted my ideas and the decisions I made thereafter.

Earthships are completely self sustaining, heating, and cooling. Most are made out of all natural and recycled material. Learning about these efficiency structures was one of the original driving forces behind my wanting to become an architect.

What experiences from childhood have had the biggest impact on your life?
